SADC-GMI Launch Set For 20 September 2016
The sustainable groundwater management in SADC member states project and the associated SADC Groundwater Management Institute are to be formally launched in Johannesburg on 20 September 2016.The launch marks a culmination of effort over a period of 8 years to get the SADC-GMI up and running.
The project is being financed by the WorldBank through a US$8.2 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and US$2.0million from the Cooperation in International Waters in Africa (CIWA). It will by strategically guided by the SADC Secretariat in Gaborone, Botswana, while the University of the Free State is to implement the project.The SADC-GMI is hosted by the UFS’s Institute for Groundwater Studies in Bloemfontein.
