Members of SADC-GMI's Board of Directors Undergo Orientation / Training Session in Pretoria: 20-21 July 2017
Southern African Development Community Groundwater Management Institute (SADC–GMI) hosted an orientation/training for its Board of Directors from the 21st to the 22nd of July 2017, at Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) Campus in Pretoria, South Africa. The training was facilitated by Ms. Barbara Strydom on behalf of Jeyax Development and Training, based in Pretoria. The training was aimed at ensuring that Board members fully comprehend the organization, the environment under which it operates their role and their ability to discharge their responsibilities effectively and competently as expected. The SADC–GMI Board of Directors constitutes members from different SADC Member States, the University of the Free State and the SADC Secretariat. The training was attended by representatives from the following Member States: Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia and from the University of the Free State (the host institution).
The training was conducted in a very interactive and participatory manner which allowed participants to engage robustly on various pertinent issues. The training covered the following areas which were deemed pivotal for the Directors’ knowledge: Board’s governance responsibilities and functions, meetings, administration, financial oversight and reporting, public relations and corporate communication and monitoring and evaluation.
The two day training ended on a very high and positive note when all participants were awarded with certificates of participation.
